Grow Your Own

Concept
To create pathways to employment and learning opportunities for adults who access their local school participating in the Pupils First project.

The Project's main objectives are:

  • Establish new pathways from the community to schools as sources of training and development and ultimately progression to employment.
  • Explore and provide training, volunteering and part-time paid work opportunities.
  • Provide opportunities to build confidence and self-esteem of parents/guardians.
  • Develop a cohort of people who can provide adults and pupils with life experiences of different careers.
  • Maintain manageable links for parents/guardians whose children are progressing from primary to secondary schools.

How are the objectives met!
To ensure main objectives are met, the GYO strand links with various organisations and agencies to deliver training/activities that contribute to;

  • Improving adult skills, both personal, interpersonal, academic/vocational.
  • Providing learning opportunites that increase employability skills.
  • Address skills shortages.
  • Partnership working.
  • Provide a supportive and conducive learning enviroment for adults.

What Impact achieving the objectives has..
Many adults have had unpleasant experience of learning within a school environment.

The Grow Your Own Strand helps to break down the barriers and provide 'fun' and 'informal' learning experiences to suit individual needs.
