At the beginning of the project the schools agreed 6 main objectives:

1. Promote engagement of the identified pupils by widening the learning experience

2. Raise motivation by providing incentives and rewards.

3. Provide support to meet individual pupils' needs.

4. Develop a flexible and appropriate curriculum.

5. Increase the level of parental involvement leading to the development of confidence in supporting children's learning.

6. Enhance schools' ability to meet the needs of individual pupils.

On reviewing the programme at the end of year 1 an additional 3 objectives were included:

7. Key Stage 3 development: To support the transistion and development of cross-phase working.

8. Improve monitoring and evaluation systems and enhance the evidence base of effective practice.

9. Embed effective practice and spread more widely in schools.

These were designed to enhance continuity, contribute to the evidence base of tried and tested interventions and ensure sustainability within school systems.
